China Visa Application

A visa is needed for all tourists entering China. Started May 01, 2003, the Chinese Embassy and Consulates ceased accepting visa applications by mail service. You must come to the visa office of the Embassy or Consulate -General in the consular jurisdiction in which you live to submit the application; or you may entrust someone else or a travel/visa agent to come to the visa office for the application process. L" Visa
is issued to an alien who comes to China for sightseeing or visiting family members/friends.


Requirements:

1. Your valid & actual passport which must have at least six (6) months of remaining validity with at least one blank visa page in it.
2. One completed Visa Application Form (Q1) with one passport photo (black & white or color is acceptable).
3. An applicant who was born in China is required to submit his /her Chinese passport or last foreign passport with a Chinese visa when he or she applies for a Chinese visa with a new foreign passport.

  • To apply for a Multiple Entry "L" Visa, a written explanation for the purpose of visit is required.
  • A foreign Chinese may apply for a Multiple Entry "L" Visa valid for 24 months.
The visa application form shall be filled out completely, correctly and legibly, otherwise this can cause a delay in processing or the refusal of the requested visa.


How to apply

1. You must come to the visa office of the Embassy or Consulate -General in the consular jurisdiction in which you live to submit the application; or

2. If you cannot come personally, you may entrust someone else or a travel/visa agent to come to the visa office of the Embassy or Consulate -General in the consular jurisdiction in which you live for the application process.


Visa fee and processing time

An extra $30 will be added if you prefer to have NiceVac applying the visa for you.

  • The regular processing time is 4 working days. For express service, additional fees of $30 for 1 working day processing (applications presented before 11:30am may be picked up between 2:30pm-3:00pm on the same day), or $20 for 2-3 working days processing will be charged.

  • Please pay by Visa, MasterCard, Money Order, Cashier's Check, Company Check or Cash. Personal checks are not acceptable. Please make the check or money order payable to the Chinese Embassy .


Visa Validity and Duration of Stay

  • Usually the validity of a Single Entry or Double Entry "L" visa is 90 days or 180 days from the date of issue. This means the holder of the visa shall enter China no later than 90 days or 180 days from the date of issue, otherwise the visa is expired and is null and void. The duration of stay of a "L" visa is 30 days, which means the holder of the visa may stay in China for up to 30 days from the date of entry.

  • The visa officer may extend the Duration of Stay if the applicant needs and requests a stay in China for more than 30 days.
Us citizens can stay in Hong Kong without a visa for up to 90 days, but a visa is required for continued travel to other Chinese cities. Check with the Chinese consulate visa section office, or any one of the numerous travel agencies in Hong Kong that can arranges visas as well.


Additional information

  • Any person suffering from a mental disorder, leprosy, AIDS, venereal diseases, contagious tuberculosis or other such infectious diseases shall not be permitted to enter China.

The Consulate Officers have the authority to refuse any visa applications inconsistent with Chinese laws and regulations, or revoke issued visas.


F Visa: Business Visa Requirements
Issued to an alien who is invited to China for a visit, an investigation, a lecture, to do business, scientific-technological and culture exchanges, short-term advanced studies, or Intern practice for a period of no more than six months.

X Visa: Study Visa Requirements
Issued to an alien who comes to China for study, advanced studies or intern practice for a period more than six months.

Z Visa: Employment / Work Visa
Issued to an alien who comes to China for a post or employment, and his/her accompanying family members.

C Visa: Issued to crewmembers on board an international train, airliner or other vessel, and their accompanying family members.

D Visa
: Issued to an alien who comes to reside permanently in China.

G Visa
: Issued to an alien who transits through China.

J-1 Visa
: Issued to foreign resident correspondents in China.

J-2 Visa
Issued to foreign correspondents who make short trips to China on reporting tasks.



F Visa: Business Visa Requirements
  • Submit a Passport valid at least 6 months beyond stay
  • 1 fully completed and signed Visa Application Form.
  • 1 Passport-type photograph required.
  • Photocopy of Alien Registration Card (Green Card) -or- evidence of legal status in USA (valid visa plus I-94 in passport)
  • A business letter from your firm explaining the purpose of the trip, and guaranteeing financial support for the applicant while in the Peoples Republic of China, and return transportation.
  • An invitation from a company or organization in PR China. If a multiple entries visa is required, the invitation must be issued by a Chinese Government Ministry or authorized government office, or Regional office of Chinese Foreign Economic Relations and Trade Commission, and include their 4-digit reference number. Double entry may be obtained for additional $25.00. Multiple entry visa are available to business visitors only.

X Visa: Study Visa
  • Submit a Passport valid at least 6 months beyond stay.
  • 1 fully completed and signed Visa Application Form,
  • 1 Passport-type photograph required.
  • An approved Foreign Student Visa Application Form (JW101 or JW202) issued by the authorized Chinese unit, and an enrollment letter from the Chinese school.
  • The applicant who will study in China for more than one year should also provide a Physical Examination Certificate for Foreign Citizen (Q2).
  • An applicant born in China who applies for a Chinese visa with a new foreign passport is required to submit his/her Chinese passport or last foreign passport with a Chinese visa.

Z Visa: Employment / Work Visa
  • Submit a Passport valid at least 6 months beyond stay
  • 1 fully completed and signed Visa Application Form,
  • 1 Passport-type photograph required.
  • Photocopy of Alien Registration Card (Green Card) -or- evidence of legal status in USA (valid visa plus I-94 in passport).
  • A business letter from your firm explaining the purpose of the trip, and guaranteeing financial support and return transportation for the applicant while in the Peoples Republic of China
  • An official invitation issued by a Chinese Government Agency -or-
  • a government-authorized company/organization Z visa invitation -or-
  • an Employment License issued by the Chinese Labor Ministry, are required.
